Pest is the lively side of Budapest – where the restaurants and night spots are located. Finding a reasonably priced place to stay which is of acceptable standard can be difficult, but you could do worse than trying the City Hotel Pilvax. It’s located a stone’s throw from Ferenciek tere metro on a side street well served by bars and restaurants.
The room
The room has aged well – a CRT TV squats on the minbar and the decor has a timeless feel to it, but the most important thing is that its clean. And the bed is comfortable. the bathroom is serviceable also.
Unfortunately the hotel is right outside a local Irish bar but while the customers are a little on the loud side, they do vacate the premises at a reasonable hour. The lack of a lift along with the amount of walking and stair climbing we do make the return in the evening a painful process!
The breakfast
The breakfast though, is where the Pilvax shines. Our expectations weren’t high, but they were verys oon exceeded: there was the standard continental offerings of cereals, cold cuts and bread. But we were surprised that a budget hotel would also provide eggs and sausages also. An additional surprise were the array of assorted pastries. A nod to the budget mindedness of our fellow guests was given by a sign saying not to take food out of the dining room

Would I Go Back
The Pilvax is perfectly serviceable – if I needed a central Pest hotel on a budget, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.
